Specialty of Department

The word Rasashastra means the “Science of Mercury”.
It is a specialized branch of Ayurveda dealing mainly with materials which are known as ‘Rasa dravyas’.
They have the three characteristic attributes – Instant effectiveness, Requirement of very small doses and Extensive therapeutic utility irrespective of constitutional variation.
Bhaishajya Kalpana is composed of two words, Bhaishajya-Drug, Kalpana-Processing. Processing means Sanskara, done in order to change in the qualities and enhance the properties of drug and finally making the drug safe and more effective.
Knowledge of Drugs, Preservation, Preparation and Dispensing of prepared drugs comes under the Department of Rasashastra and Bhaishajya Kalpana.
Thus Rasashastra and Bhaishajya kalpana is the most important branch of learning in the field of Ayurveda.
